reflecting on the past, engaging in the present and dreaming of better days to come
Welcome to the third episode of Doorways to Sustainable Schools - a podcast aimed to support London schools to engage in London Climate Action Week 14th-22nd November 2020.
Jordan's bio
Jordan is a former GB bobsleigh athlete. Since leaving bobsleigh Jordan has been retraining as a boxer. Jordan graduated from Loughborough University in 2018 with a degree in Sports Science. Whilst there he started working as Security on the doors of the students union and in some of London's clubs and hotels. Jordan is also a campaigner on social justice issues such as Consent, Loneliness in Society and Black Lives Matter.
During this podcast you can listen to Jordan talk about his journey from being a talented young science student to becoming a GB bobsleigh athlete. He explains how he used this experience to inspire school students to pursue their dreams. Jordan also discusses how his security work, perhaps surprisingly, has helped him develop his perspectives on social justice. Jordan shares some reflections on lockdown, his love of nature and some tips on how to engage a more diverse range of students and educators into our sustainable schools work and London Climate Action Week.
To accompany this lesson Jordan and Martin have co-created a free PE lesson to support schools with their Eco-Schools programme.
This episode is hosted by Martin Crabbe, chair of the London Sustainable Schools Forum and a Geography teacher in London and takes place in his back garden.
Plus, Jordan and Martin have co-created and shared a free lesson plan, suitable for all age groups, which uses PE to help students engage with the Eco-Schools programme in school. You can find it further up this page.
Jordan's recommendations:
1. Have an open mind when you meet people
2. Put yourself into situations where you meet new people outside your usual groups
3. Make lessons varied to suit a whole range of learning sides and where possible learn outside the classroom
