What is empty classroom day?

Empty Classroom Day is an annual celebration of learning outside.  Sign up to say that your class will be learning outside on Friday 17th May 2016!

Find your wild side, grow your own picnic, harvest rain for a water fight, play snap with flower petals and more.....

We want as many students as possible to learn outside the classroom on June 17th. That's it.

Background

The idea of Empty Classroom Day came to us during a conversation at London Sustainable Schools Forum back in 2011 and Empty Classroom Day has been celebrated annually in London since 2012

Anna Portch turned the idea into reality with the support of;
  • Many members of LSSF (London Sustainable Schools Forum)
  • LEEF (London Environmental Educators Forum) and FACE (Farming and Countryside Education) including:
  • Martin Crabbe, Chair of LSSF
  • Sara Gelfgren, Illustrator
  • Zoe Slade who turbo charged it in 2013
  • Awards for All who paid for 10 community workshops in 2015
  • Chris Robson who took it global in 2014 and 2015 when over 600 schools took part
Of course it is at the schools where the real stuff happens, and Empty Classroom Day only exists when teachers and pupils are learning outside on the day.

 In 2016 Empty Classroom Day is going to be run by Keep Britain Tidy in England and by Project Dirt globally
